Covergirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm (Grenache) Review

Today I will be reviewing Covergirl's 'NatueLuxe Gloss Balm' in a shade called Grenache. I will begin my telling you what it claims it is and does and then we'll see if it lives up to those claims.

Claims (taken from (http://www.covergirl.com.au/natureluxeglossbalm)

  • It feels "luxurious" and leaves your lips feeling "decadent".
  • It has a soft and lightweight feel.
  • Appearance wise, it is sheer and glossy colour.
  • It contains SPF15.

Review

First impressions - For some unknown reason I was expecting this to be the love child of Maybelline's Baby Lips and Revlon's Lip Butters. It's not but nonetheless it is still a good product.

Upon application it gives your lips a glossy natural look with a moderate amount of pigment, the pigment is definitely noticeable despite being a little more sheer than a Revlon lip butter (but remember the sheerness is part of the products definition). It feels very lightweight and balmy and gives your lips a natural looking gloss. I like to think of this product as an improvement of the traditional 'gloss' because it feels really balmy, light and creamy when you are wearing it, whereas the traditional gloss is more glossy but also usually more heavy and thick feeling ....as always there are always exceptions to the rule!

The packaging is practical and cute in a mint green shimmery tube with a clear lid. The wind-up mechanism works well and you can here a "click" when it is wound down fully which I like. There is nothing about the packaging I don't like so, a big tick from me in terms of packaging.

One of the things that drew me to this product was it's ingredients list. The NatureLuxe collection of products from Covergirl is promoted as a natural range of products, for example, this gloss contains mango butter and shea butter. Which was one of the main reasons I brought the product because I am trying to find products that have healthier ingredients lists. But then, when I got the product home and studies the ingredients list more closely I realised it contains Propylparaben, and carmine in  which disappointed me but might not bother you at all. It's really a personal choice. Despite this, it is good to see companies, such as Covergirl, beginning to think about their ingredients list and their inclusions of things such as mango and shea butter and lanolin is promising.

It doesn't stay on my lips for a very long time and you will find yourself needing to reapply within two hours however when it's on your lips it feels lovely and looks nice too, very natural looking. If you have chapped or dry lips you don't need to hesitate before applying this gloss/balm, I found that it gave my lips a nice look to them even though my lips are not in the best condition at the moment. Moisturising wise this gloss is more moisturising than a traditional gloss and leaves your lips feeling soft and hydrated for a couple of hours, however I wouldn't say it actually repairs damaged lips......it's still pretty good a tinted gloss though!!!!!!

Overall this is a pretty good product. It's not an A+ student in my opinion because it could be more moisturising and last longer but all the same, it does what it claims too and is worthy of a place in your handbag. Apply it throughout the day when you need a pick-me-up for a natural beauty look.

So you might be left wondering if this product is actually any good or not because I have mentioned both good and bad things..... The truth is, I only brought this because I had read some rave reviews about this product. But I prefer to present both sides of the product. I find it really hard to believe that there is any product out there that is 100% perfect. So in conclusion, this gloss is a pretty, natural looking gloss that does a good job at moisturising your lips for a few hours and gives your lips a naturally beautiful look to them. They don't last forever and you probably won't be temped to throw out your holy grail balm but don't let that stop you from giving these a go.

Overall score: 7.5/10
Do they live up to their claims? Yes
Would I repurchase this product? No
Moisturising?  6.5/10
Colour? 8/10
Packaging? 8/10

Here in Australia it retails for $12.95.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day :)
