Hi guys, for the final day of the 31 day challenge we had to recreate somebody else's manicure.
After seeing Anna's manicure using magnetic polish I decided that I needed some magnetic polish too :p Well maybe not needed but I didn't have any and I wanted it :D
So I present to you my first ever magnetic polish manicure. I'm still learning how to use the magnet, hahaha, I kept bumping the magnet on my nails so you might see a couple of smudges!
This is a polish from BYS called 'Magnetic Mars'. I L.O.V.E this colour and love how the magnetic effect gives the polish a super intriguing depth.
I am so happy that I have completed the 31 day challenge. Think I missed one or two days but that doesn't matter! I can always (and am planning to) go back and do them when I get a spare five minutes!
A big congratulations to everyone who participated, all of your manicures were astoundingly good!
Today I wanted to bring to your attention the awesomeness of Scrangie, who has the most amazing swatches ever! If you haven't checked out her blog you seriously should click here and pay her a visit! Amazing, I tell you!
So in honour of Scrangie's consistently awesome swatches I decided to have a go at doing a perfect swatch (using my new camera which I'm still figuring out how to use ). I used two coats of Sinful Color's 'Endless Blue'. This polish applies brilliantly, dries quickly and has a lovely shiny and creamy finish. All Sinful Colors polishes are 3-free which I love!
Hi guys, playing catch-up here because I missed a couple of days for the 31 day challenge. So this was my design for "inspired by nature". Initially I was thinking green hills, green leaves, trees and flowers but I wanted to be a bit more interesting than that so I went with the nights' sky :)
I used "A date in the moonlight" by Essence and "Part Popper" by ModelsPrefer. "A date in the moonlight" is a beautiful navy polish with shimmer and "Party Popper" is a mixture of holo bar glitter and silver glitter in a clear base.
I used the nights' sky as my inspiration and really love how this turned out. The first time I wore Party Popper I was kind of disapointed with it, but it has redeemed itself here I think. What do you think?
I just got a new camera, yay!!!! So these are the first photos I took with the new camera. It's great, really it is, BUT, the only problem is that it is too good! Well you see the problem is that even though my cuticles look nice in real-life, the camera highlights all of the details of my fingers making my good cuticles look yuck. I don't want to think about what photos are going to look like when my cuticles are bad!
I have a couple of different favourite colours for different things. I love black, teal, coral and red clothing. For make-up and lipsticks I'm into nudes and brownish tones and my bedroom is fitted out with latte walls with black furniture and red accessories. On the other hands, I find yellow cars very "sexy" but then when it comes to nail polish I don't really like wearing black nail polish and nude polish is only worn when I'm either lazy, have an important meeting or have super short gross nails! So anyway, this summer I have been loving corals so I decided to do coral nails for today. I chose a neon coral because I was feeling quite cheerful but in winter I go for the more subdued corals out there (Sally Hansen's 'So Much Fawn' is lovely).
This colour 'pops' a lot more in 'real-life'. These photos really don't do this polish justice :(
Can you believe the challenge is nearly over? I can't and whats more.... I am still participating. Last time I attempted this challenge I bombed out quickly because my nails were not healthy enough and I didn't have enough polish! I think I might have missed four or five days of this challenge but hopefully I will be able to get those challenges up before the end of the month.....fingers crossed!
Please check out what the other guys have done for today's challenge and take care :)
Hi guys!!! Today the prompt for the 31 day challenge was "inspired by you". Now I don't particularly like skittle mani's and crackle polish isn't my favourite type of polish but this manicure which is suppose to represent me includes both! Weird huh?
Anyway who am I? I am a student studying to be a clinical neuropsychologist, I love nail polish, handbags, shoes, books, interior decorating and I am a TV junkie. I consider myself to be a bit quirky, a bit unique, very conscientiousness, fun ....and a bit random! And perhaps most importantly, I don't care what people think, I am who I am :) I don't believe in following trends and having to think what everybody else thinks!
Oh and did I mention I was indecisive? I couldn't even decide what type of mani I wanted to do today!!!! I ended up doing a skittle with the following colours (and then adding OPI's 'silver shatter' ontop): Unamed polish by Solace, Timbleberry by Sinful Colors, Endless Blue by Sinful Colors and Be Happy by Sinful Colors.
These photographs are of my rarely seen right hand so apologies for the weird photos. I find it so difficult to hold the camera in my left hand!
I am really in love with how this crackle turned out. Crackle, I find, can be quite unpredictable but this crackle turned out quite awesome I think.
Thanks for reading, take care :)
P.S --> sorry for the wonky formatting on this post. My computer just won't behave! GAH!!!!
G'day mate......Happy Australia Day!!!! I hope everybody has a wonderful day and enjoys the long weekend, whatever you are doing. Two of my best friends are coming over for bubbles and some nibbles before we head into the city for some dinner. Fingers crossed we get a table and its not too chaotic :)
For the 26th day of the 31 day challenge which coincidently (I assume) falls on Australia Day the prompt is very fitting as it is 'Inspired by your country'. I have super-short nails at the moment :( so I feel quite limited in terms of nail art. Plus, I'm ashamed to feature these short nails on the blog, they are so yuck!
I know I have a missed a couple of days for this challenge but I will definitely go back and complete them before the end of the challenge.
I went for a burnt orange polish with gold speckles in by Essence called 'Gorgeous Bling Bling'. I'm thinking this could represent the outback. I've never been to the outback although I would love to go. I have however been to the 'bush' and, especially when we were in drought, it was very dry. I also did a gold accent nail using Essence's 'A Piece of Forever' because according to our national anthem we have "golden soil". I guess our colours our green and gold and a green and gold skittle would have looked cool but with short yucky nails I'm just not brave enough. I did however stamp a kangaroo onto my accent nail using 'Gorgeous Bling Bling' and consequently discovered that that polish is definitely not good for stamping. But oh well, you can't win them all!
So if you're not a fan of Australia I guess you should stop reading now (bye) but I thought I would write a little about Australia :) First up, our anthem. We use to sing this every Monday morning at assembly in Primary School, while raising the Aussie flag up the flagpole.
Here is a video of 'Advance Australia Fair' the name of our anthem:
I also though that for the long weekend I would showcase some more of Australia, do some more Aussie nails and maybe some more videos from youtube. I have to laugh, when I was searching for videos, I found a video, '10 reasons not to come to Australia' :)
Today for the 31 day challenge we had to do a manicure inspired by fabric. I pretty much knew straight away what my favourite fabric was but wasn't sure how to "translate" it into a nail design. I'm not the most artistic person in the world so drawing each individual flower was out of the question. I finally settled on just using the colours of the fabric to do a bit of a dotticure - yep I'm still in love with dotticures :) After just discovering how to do them without proper dotting tools I keep wanting to do them, hopefully i'm not too boring :s
The fabric is from one of my most worn pieces of clothing - an amazing maxi dress that is ever so flattering and super easy to wear! I might even go as far as saying it is my favourite piece of clothing! And the ironic thing is I'm a jeans and t-shirt person!!!!
Okay I'm going to be honest I had to be do a bit of research for the "merge or melt" prompt and I'm still not 100% sure that this is technically correct but oh well. Here is my attempt,
I started with two thin coats of Revlon's Midnight Affair and then using a wooden cuticle stick dabbed on Blue Marlin by Ulta3.
Hi guys, for the 20th day of the 31 day challenge the theme was "texture" so I decided to layer some awesome polishes over each other and then do some stamping. It was looking GREAT but then my top coat ruined it....not a happy camper!
I started with two coats of Sportsgirl's 'Love Potion' which is a green/gold duochrome and looks wicked. Then I did two thin coats of Butter London's 'Fishwife' a teal holographic polish which I adore. Finally, I stamped using my fave stamp using Konads blue stamping polish'. The top coat which ruined all my hard work was by ModelsPrefer. Maybe I didn't wait long enough or maybe this top coat just shouldn't be used over stamping? It was really only the middle finger that got wrecked but I still don't want to dwell on this mani for too long. But I am definitely going to re-do it at one stage because it looked AMAZING :)
Sorry for the lame post....Kinda hard when you are are disappointed with the end result. So close but so far!
Anyone have any good top coats for stamping and just in general?
Thanks for reading and have a lovely day :)
Today for the 31 day challenge I had the very difficult task of deciding what my favourite polish is. If you don't know already, I am a very indecisive person so picking favourites is something dread! I couldn't pick one favourite polish but instead separated my polish into colours and "special effect" polishes....it made it slightly easier for me to decide that from my "special effect" polishes I love MaxFactor's 'Fantasy Fire'.
'Fantasty Fire' caused quite a buzz when it was first released but for some reason I haven't worn it much. BUT when I wear it I find it captivating.
Alone 'Fantasy Fire' it sheer so I usually layer it over another polish. Previously I have layered it over 'Purple Haze' a purple creme by MaxFactor but for today's challenge I decided to layer it over 'Orchid' a darker purple metallic polish by Ulta3. It gave 'Orchid' a beautiful depth and shimmered like crazy. But I just couldn't capture the flashes of colour or the 'depth' today. And to be honest I don't think I will layer it over 'Orchid' again, but still it is an amazing polish and when you witness the colour flashes you can't help but be amazed. Over 'Orchid' you get mostly a bronze-y purple shimmer and inside you get green and the bronze-y red shimmer.
If you want this polish (of course you do!) I saw it at Priceline recently for $5.95. It is a small bottle and a TINY brush but well worth it.
I have decided to include a photo of 'Fantasy Fire' layered over 'Purple Haze' too because I think you can see it more clearly?
Layered over 'purple haze'
GAH why do the most amazing polishes ALWAYS have to be the most difficult to capture on camera? Actually....that reminds me! I have investigating buying a new camera - mostly because of this blog. I have just been using my camera phone because my that is just what is closest to me. Do you think my photos need improvement? Please do let me know! Also, I have heard that colourful camera (e.g. purple, pink, red camera) reflect onto your nails and mess up the colour of the photos. Is this really true?
Cheers and please check out the other participant's favourite polishes!
Woah! We are 58.06% of the way through the 31 day challenge :)

Today the prompt was "your oldest untried" so it was a pretty easy day for me since I only have 5 polishes untried (4 of those were given to me by one of my best friends in the world for christmas) and the other I bought while christmas shopping (mostly because it was a mega-bargain). Like as if I need another purple polish!

Anyway this is 'Lilac Love' from BYS and it is a beautiful purple creme. Slightly dusty it is the perfect colour for autumn and winter and applies effortlessly. It probably could be a one-coater if you were careful but I did two coats here (no top coat) and then since I loved my dotticure from yesterday I decided to have some more fun with dots today (sorry, I know its boring. I promise - no dots tomorrow!). I actually liked the dots more on my right hand but stupid me only did one coat of 'Lilac Love' on my right hand (and it's messy) so it could look better. Also, I found it impossible to take a steady photo of my right hand!!!

The dots were done using a wooden cuticle stick and 'Black Satin' by Ulta3.
Thanks for reading and cheers! Enjoy your weekend (can you believe it s Friday already?)
And don't forget to check what the other girls have done :)
Hi guys!!!! Hope all is well :) Today for the 31 day challenge the theme is "a technique new to you".
I love 'dotticures' but haven't got any dotting tools so I though this would be the perfect opportunity to kind-of 'make my own' dotting tools. I gathered a whole heap of pointy things from around the house and found that the two things that worked best were:
1. A wooden cuticle stick
2. A bobby pin
Well at least I think it is a wooden cuticle stick. Found it in the bathroom cabinet and goodness knows how long it has been in there - over a decade?
The bobby pin also worked but it was less reliable - the dots were not always perfect whereas with the wooden cuticle stick I found the dots to be perfect 100% of the time and it was super-easy to use!
I'm not saying this manicure is perfect or well-planned, it was just some experimentation on my behalf. And I must say I am inspired....expect to see a lot of dotticures in the future :)
I used Butter London's 'Pillar Box Red' which is a gorgeous red creme and ulta3's 'Black Satin'. I love how this turned out because at the beginning I wasn't even sure I had anything that would work as a dotting tool! My favourite finger would have to be the middle finger (done with the wooden cuticle stick) whereas the other two fingers were done with the bobby pin.
Hi guys, today is the 16th day of the 31 day challenge, yay!!! And the theme is "colour opposites". I decided to go for orange and blue as they are colour opposites on the colour wheel (I think....it has been awhile since my last 'art' class).
I was literally out all day and just got home so this is a pretty basic tape mani but oh well. I love how these two polishes go together and think I might do some stamping with them in the near future.
The polishes I used were:
Endless Blue - Sinful Colors
Doc - Essence Snow White Collection
Both of these polishes apply like a dream and dry super quick. I did one coat of each and think this mani took less than ten minutes. Polish it more blue than it is appearing on my computer monitor. Why is it that purple polishes look blue and vice a versa on computers? Today it got to 42 degrees Celsius so was too tired to do anything amazing! But the result is still cool I think. What do you think?
Yep, I KNOW, it is 2 days late but to be honest I am feeling a bit sad :( I love blogging and I love experimenting with nail-art but I feel like the 31 day challenge is beginning to make doing my nails a "chore" and making me love all of this a little less (just a little less). That and I have brought a lot of polishes but really that money should have been going towards the holiday I am hoping to go on at the end of the year to celebrate the end of my undergrad degree. Anyway, has anyone else felt like this? I am sure that once I calm myself down I will feel a lot better. I guess I just hate it when I feel a bit out of control.....LOL! I'm sure I will regain my complete passion once this challenge is over and I can do a manicure and wear it for a week (ok, realistically....a few days)
Sorry to whinge and thanks for listening to me! Lets move onto the polish.......
Today I have done some simple but elegant stamping and I love it! Last time I wore this polish it was winter. Today the sun was shining and I discovered that Revlon's 'Spanish Moss' has a beautiful shimmer in it!!! I am so head over heels in love with this polish. I will do a swatch for you one day soon. So stay tuned :)
I stamped using essence's 'A Piece of Forever', from their breaking dawn limited edition collection. It really is a great polish, it can easily be worn alone but as a stamping polish it is reliable and bold. I think it works better than the Konad gold polish.
So what do you think of this design? I really love it :)
