Three Nail Challenge - Edgy

The three nail challenge is nearly over!!!! I haven't missed too many days which is a pleasant surprise (hahaha) and so today I am posting the theme 'edgy' which was suppose to be posted on the 25th but oh well, I'm not too late, am I?

For the theme 'edgy' I wanted to do a manicure with lots of lines (and therefore edges). I didn't want to do a tape manicure because I don't have any sticky tape!!! So I decided to do some stamping. I'm not quite a stamping expert yet :( but I am improving slowly, I hope!

The polishes I used for this manicure were:
  • Rimmel Grey Matter
  • Kit Start Up

The stamping is not as good as I wanted it to be and the lines are not super crisp on some of my fingers but overall I think it is a cool looking stamp. Although I did have trouble making sure it covered my entire nail. But maybe that's just me!

Hope you have a great weekend!!!
Cheers :)

Three Nail Challenge - Smooth

For the theme 'smooth' I wanted to do something with curves and because the sun was shining I decided to go with glitter. I thought with the sun shinning and all I would get some pretty glitter photographs but for some unknown reason my camera refused to show the true glittery and shimmery nature of this manicure.

I used Sally Hansen's Pedal to the metal and Glitz Gal.

My cuticles are a mess so I'm not going to torture you with too many photos;

I first did 2-3 coats of Pedal To The Metal and then using French manicure tip guides (made by essence and retail for around $1.95) I created the glitter curves. The idea seemed better when it was in my head but I think next time, rather than have 3 nails with all different sized curves I will have the middle nail completely glitter as an accent nail.

I love the combination of these two polishes and whilst I don't love this manicure I still think it looks quite nice. And in real-life it is super sparkly :) which I love!

Cheers,

Three Nail Challenge - Favourite emotion

This post is for the three nail challenge and the theme of the day was your favourite emotion. I'm posting this a bit late though (sorry) because my internet was disconnected for a few days :(
Perhaps I'm a bit corny but my favourite emotion is LOVE. And what do I associated with love? RED! So today I am going to be showing you Butter London's 'Pillar Box Red'. This is my first 'Butter London' which I received as a freebie by buying the magazine 'Instyle'. So all you Aussie girls, rush down to your newsagency if you want to get a Butter London for $10 rather than the $22 that they are valued at!

The formula of this polish is fantastic, a dream to work with, and is opaque in one coat. However because my nails are in a horrible state I did 2-3 coats on some nails because I have heaps of dents in my nails :( It dried quickly and is a beautiful creme. I wore it for a few days and it lasted well. I would definitely buy more Butter London polishes.

Another redeeming quality of this polish is that is is 3-free!!!! I love it when polishes actually advertise this on their bottles, so much easier than having to read the ingredients list. Though I do wish there more 4-free, 5-free and water-based polishes around.

Hope you are having a lovely day :)
Cheers

Three Nail Challenge - Favourite Song

For this manicure, the dilemma wasn't which polish to use but what song to use as inspiration. I am a very indecisive person and hate having to decide favourites. When thinking about my favourite songs, the songs going through my mind were:
  • Nickelback - photograph, animals, this afternoon, how you remind me, far away, savin me, rockstar, someday. lullaby, bottoms up, trying not to love you, don't ever let it end (in no particular order)
  • Adele - someone like you, one and only and set fire to rain
  • Darren Hayes - Roses
  • Savage Garden - truly madly deeply, affirmation,
  • Daughtry - no surprise
And the list goes on...............................................................................................

So I was going to use essence's 'blue addicted' and be inspired by nickelback but the sun was shining so I decided to go for Adele's 'set fire to rain' and use my 'fantasy fire' polish my Max Factor.

After reading reviews of fantasy fire and knowing that it was going to be a very sheer polish I decided to layer it over Max Factor's 'purple haze'.

I'm not going to review 'purple haze' in this post but please note that all photos are fantasy fire layered over two coats of purple haze.

Fantasy Fire is a gorgeous micro shimmer polish . multichrome shimmer with red, purple, gold, blue and green tones. However, the most prominent tones of the polish are the purple, blue, red and golden tones. Okay okay I know this description is lacking precision but it is an amazing polish and in different lights you go 'oh look at that, another colour!!!'

Why did I pick fantasy fire for this song? Well for one the song is pretty passionate and firey, as is the polish.

The blue and green tones are visible when it is darker and refused to show themselves in my photographs :(

Enjoy,

Three Nail Challenge - Futuristic

Theme #3 of the three nail challenge is futuristic.

I immediately thought of spaceships, UFO's and the playstation game 'Airblade'.

I decided to go with the spaceship idea....and it provided me with a great excuse to use one of the polishes I just brought :) Rimmel's 'Grey Matter'. I will review the actual polish later but the colour is beautiful! I have wanted a grey polish for a long long long time......and now I have one, yay!!!

So I was thinking that because spaceships are shiny and new and futuristic......and all that that silver shatter would look cool on top of it......but it didn't quite work out so I just left it as an accent nail.

This is the failed shatter nail. I thought the contrast might have been different but sadly I was wrong. I t was the first time I had used the shatter polish and in the bottle it looked darker. It WAS pretty but not bold enough to warrant doing all my nails.

From a distance the shatter effect disapoints. But the grey looks lovely!

This is my right hand, you probably don't see much of it and as you can see I have a cracked nail that was emphasised by this polish :( but I think this polish shows you the colour and finish of the polish quite nicely.

Three Challenge - Ultra Modern

This manicure is for the three challenge and the theme is ultra modern. I didn't have time to get my stamps out so I decided to use Revlon's Fierce. When I think of modern things I think of shiny stuff and I think this colour is very shiny and glossy so I think it goes well :)
I'm sorry this mani isn't more interesting!

Sunny Saturday

The sun is shinning, I've been hitting the books and actually achieving something and my nails are painted in a new polish :) What a great way to spend a Saturday arvo. Okay, you might think the mention of studying would ruin it all but it is actually nice to be catching-up with everything rather than falling behind with all my course work.

Sadly, this post is not going to be full  of pretty pictures :) but is to announce my participation in two challenges (yes I might be crazy). I know I just finished the 31 day challenge (which I hope to complete again when I am better at stamping and nail art) but the two new challenges are not everyday which is good because with everything I have going on I can't change my polish everyday, it feels like a waste and it makes me sad when I have to remove a manicure I like so quickly!

The first challenge I will be participating in is the "Three Nail Challenge". It begins on the 1st of September and if you would like to participate click here. I think this challenge is great because it is something different and very well organised!

The second challenge I will be doing as of now is Crumpet's Nail Tarts

Another great challenge and I am really excited to see how these challenges go. I am going to try not to miss any days :) and hopefully I won't use them to buy more polish because it is getting ridiculous!
I would love it if you joined in and did one of these challenges with me :)
Have a great night,
cheers
