Battle Nail Challenge - cream vs. shimmer

Hi guys! For the Battle Nail Challenge the prompt for today was cream vs. shimmer. I honestly like both finishes equally and they are my favourite finishes so I decided to show you a polish that is the best from both worlds. Kinda cheating...I know!

This is 'Spanish Moss' by Revlon which is a gorgeous dusty green that applies and looks like a cream finish but there is a very subtle shimmer in it that shows itself in sunlight. I really adore this polish as it is sophisticated yet a little different.

Apologies for the photos, the sun was in hiding today which was annoying as I couldn't get the very subtle shimmer to show up in the photos, GAH! Still a pretty polish though :)

Battle Nail Challenge: Glitter vs. Bar Glitter

Hi guys!!! Today I have a "glitter" manicure to show you.....well I thought I did!!! The polish in question is CoverGirl's 'Midnight Magic'. In the bottle and one coat of this polish makes you believe it looks like a dense glitter but three coats later and it turns out that this polish is more of a metallic foil  - well at least I think that would be the correct term for it. If you think it is something different please do let me know!!!!

So anyway, for this manicure I did an accent nail using CoverGirl's Midnight Magic and the rest of my fingers are Essence's 'Date In The Moonlight'.

I am pretty hopeless at describing colours but 'Date In The Moonlight' is a navy polish with blue shimmer lurking beneath the surface. 'Midnight Magic' is either a super dense glitter or a metallic foil that contains, at the bare minimum, green, blue and silver tones and most likely more!!!

Overall I think that glitter usually wins for me as I haven't found a bar glitter I love yet.

The Battle Nail Challenge - Holographic vs. Matte

Okay so continuing on with The Battle Nail Challenge today I have for you the battle between holographic polishes and matte nail polishes. I think both holo and matte polishes can look fantastic however I find that both don't tend to last long on my nails :( Holographic polishes are definitely my favourite although I think this love comes more from swatches rather than actually wearing it on my nails - weird I know!

I decided to do a "matte" manicure for this post but if you want to see a holographic post click here to see fishwife by butter london or siw by make up store.

For this manicure I used the following polishes:

• 1 coat of 'Jungle Gem' an indigo teal by Sally Hansen 
• 2-3 coats of Speck-tacular a flakie top coat by Australis
• 1 coat of 'Matte Top Coat' by Chi Chi

I love how flakie top coats look when covered with a matte top coat and same goes for glitters. They still sparkle and have that "light-shift" property but it looks more mysterious. 

I promise I didn't forget about this challenge but somehow ended up starting other challenges and sadly haven't done this for a long time! Bad me!!!! Hopefully I will be able to get back on track now.

Battle Nail Challenge - Geometric

Hi guys, hope everybody is well and enjoying the Christmas season! I haven't been posting much lately because I have been running around everywhere buying presents and organising things. Oh, and some silly person (err. me) decided to take some extra classes over the summer period! What was I thinking???? Instead of watching the cricket and painting my nails after and winding down after Christmas I will be pulling my hair out writing two assignments.

Anyway, I am finally in the spirit of the season and did this awesome manicure. Inspired by wrapping paper it is red, green and gold stripes done using sticky tape. Not very geometric I know but I really love this mani and wanted to share it :)

Polishes I used:

• Essence - A Piece of Forever
• Butter London - Pillar Box Red
• Revlon - Emerald

The Battle Nail Challenge - Stripes

The battle for this post is between stripes and dots. I decided to do a manicure for the stripes side of the battle.

I used two polishes from essence's snow white collection, happy (yellow) and doc (orange). This was one of  my first attempts at free-hand nail art and I guess it's okay. What do you think?

Battle Nail Challenge - pretty manicure

Hi guys :) Hope you are all having a great weekend. Can't believe it is Sunday already! Went shopping yesterday and it really felt like Christmas. Shops were pretty hectic already, and I haven't started my shopping yet! Oh dear....



Anyway this post is for the battle nail challenge (click here if you to know more about it or want to join). The battle is pretty vs. punk and this manicure is for the pretty side of the battle and hopefully tomorrow I will have time to do a punk manicure, then you can decide which wins the battle :)

I wanted to try and do a proper jelly sandwich for this post as I have never done a proper full 10 fingered jelly sandwich before. The polishes I used were:

• Sally Hansen's Razzle Dazzler (Gem Crush Series)
• Ulta3's Confetti 
• Revlon's Just Tinted in Mystical 

Mystical screamed out to me as the perfect polish for a jelly sandwich because it is kinda sheer (but super easy to work with and not too sheer that it drives you crazy) and the texture of the polish is kinda jelly-like. 

On my right hand I layered Confetti over Mystical and did that two times. So in total I had two layers of confetti and two layers of mystical.

On my left hand I experimented. On my ring finger I used Mystical and Razzle Dazzler and confetti. It turned out awesome!!!! I am super pleased with this finger in particular because Razzle Dazzler gives the manicure a lot of depth when used with mystical and confetti has smaller glitters and you can see some green, red and blue glitters. On my left middle finger I only used confetti and mystical and then on my index finger and thumb I used Razzle Dazzler and mystical. These two polishes go together really nicely and I would highly recommend using them together even if you are not into statement nails because it is pretty subtle but with lots of awesomeness.

Battle Nail Challenge - Pastel Vs. Neon - Pastel Manip

There is usually a moment in a nail challenge when I realise that my polish collection is missing something vital Today was the day.....I realised the fact that I am addicted to buying nail polish I barely have any pastels and no neons! To be fair, I'm not really into pastels or neons but still.....no good collection can be without one or two neons and pastels.

The two pastels I do have I brought a few months back when it was becoming clear that pastels were going to be big for spring and the upcoming summer. They were Rimmel's 'Misty Jade' and 'How Do You Lilac It?'.

'How Do You Lilac It?' is a pastel mauve/purple polish and is really quite lovely. Definitely a lovely colour for the spring and summer time. The only downside is the formula, it is pretty sheer and as you can see in the photographs even with two coats you can still see the nail line a little :(

The Battle Nail Polish - Pink Vs. Purple Manicure Part Three

Okay so this is the final instalment of the pink vs. purple battle of the battle nail challenge. Same as the previous purple manicure I showed you a few days ago, this one was also done on my awesome friends' nails because mine are still growing! Haven't painted them for two weeks and they are already looking more healthy, yay!!!! Hopefully I can start wearing polish again!!!!!

Anyway, this is Revlon's Bold Sangria with OPI's silver shatter layered over the top. Seriously - I think this is the best shatter I think I have ever seen!!!!! It looks amazing :) I guess that is the bad thing with shatter polishes, they are always unique and sometimes you get good cracks and sometimes, not so good! Please ignore the lack of clean-up, ran out of nail polish remover :(

Amazing? I think so!

The Battle Nail Polish - Pink Vs. Purple Manicure Part Two

Okay so yesterday as part of the pink vs. purple battle I showed you some pink spring-time stamping I did. Since I am currently trying to make my nails healthier I am not and have not been wearing polish for the last two weeks :( and I must say my nails are definitely growing well and looking healthy already! Yay!!!!!! Anyway, that means that I did this on my lovely friend who volunteered her nails :) It was the first time I had stamped on another person so my skills still need improvement. I actually found it really difficult to paint and stamp another person's nails. I was pretty embarrassed as I am always talking about my nail polish blog and nail-art designs.

This is essence's 'where is the party' with gold stamp over the top. I love this combo!!!!

Sorry about the lack of clean-up, I ran out of nail polish remover. Had been planning to do some clean-up with remover and a Q-tip. 

I have one more purple manicure to show you for this battle between pink and purple and then it will be time to decide the winner.

The Battle Nail Polish Challenge: Pink Vs. Purple Battle - manicure one

To get into spring I decided to do some stamping over Essie's 'Your Hut or Mine'. I used a Konad plate and a Express Salon plate to do these and white Konad polish. I just had to use my favourite Konad stamp (the thin border floral one) and then picked some floral stamps that were not from Konad. I'm quite pleased with the result however wish I hadn't done the border ones on such weird angles! Enjoy :)

Sorry I am so behind with this challenge, I was super excited for this challenge but then my nails ALL started  splitting, peeling and breaking so I cut them all sort. Just before I cut all my nails I did a few quick manicures, including this one! I have officially had no nail polish on my nails for over a week, so sad!!!!

Tomorrow I will post my purple manicure and then lets see which manicure wins the battle :)

The Battle Nail Challenge: Black Vs. White

The second battle for the battle nail challenge is black vs. white and I decided to combine the two and do some stamping. I had difficulty thinking of something that was black and white, and could be turned into a nail design easily. I also only have 1 good black polish and konad's white stamping polish.  I eventually decided to go with the black and white checkered flag they use before a car race begins.

The black polish  used was by Ulta3 and was named 'Black Satin'. It was my first time using this polish and I must say, I am impressed! It only required one coat, formula was fantastic to work with, brush was brilliant and it dried super quickly. This manicure only took a little over 10 minutes to do :)

I must apologise for the horrible photos!!!! As soon as I stepped outside to take photos it started bucketing with rain, so these were the only decent photos I managed to snap of the manicure. Typical weather!

The BATTLE Nail Polish - Battle One: Manicure two (stamping)

The first battle is Blue Vs. Green and I have decided for this battle to complete two manicures. You have already seen my first manicure/opponent, essence's blue addicted and this is the second manicure/opponent.

Recently I have really been into blue and green polishes....and teal polish which I guess is in-between blue and green.

Anyway, for this manicure I turned to my reliable and loved Revlon 'Emerald' Polish. Consistently easy to apply, quick to apply and only requires one coat!!!! I then decided to do some stamping using my blue Konad polish and favourite Konad plate.

Sadly, the stamping isn't very easy to see in real-life unless you are super close. But at least in photographs it looks awesome. Well at least I think so anyway! 

So now for me the first battle is complete: my 'blue addicted' manicure vs. this stamping manicure. Which one has won the 'battle'? Feel free to comment below and let me know...

The Battle Nail Polish Battle #1 - Blue

Yay!!! It’s the first battle of the challenge and the first battle is blue vs. green. 

For the first manicure of this battle I decided to use essence’s ‘blue addicted’. This polish can make a bold statement but I wanted to ‘tone it down’ a little so I just used one layer of ‘blue addicted’ over ‘date in the moonlight’ and it still looks great. ‘Blue addicted’ really is an amazing polish! It applies easily without the need to arrange the glitter, and dries quickly. Topcoat isn't required, it's naturally glossy :) If I had used more layers this manicure probably would have looked better but I wanted something subtle.....

I am also planning another manicure for this 'battle' between blue and green so stay tuned.
