Siw by Make-Up Store

Oh my goodness.....this has been sitting in my "drafts" folder for over a month and I had actually forgotten I owned this polish :( I know what I'm wearing tomorrow on my nails!!! This is a seriously amazing holographic polish! Siw is a blue/silver holographic polish, and boy is it holographic!!!! If you are a holo lover, you NEED this! I only discovered this polish  by accident when I went shopping in the city. In the beauty department I wandered into the 'Make-Up Store' kiosk and found this polish.

Make-Up Store is a Swedish company with stores all over the world (to name a few: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Singapore, Mexico, Canada, Indonesia, Czech Republic, Poland, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Malta and etc...) 

Their range of polish was pretty impressive. But to be honest once I saw this polish which, being HOLOGRAPHIC, totally distracted me from all of the other pretty colours! Oups, talk about being a bad blogger!

Anyway, back to the polish. This is a blue holographic polish with  a very strong linear holographic effect. In the sun it looks spectacular and inside (if you're not under a light) it looks like a subdued bluey-silver polish. Technically it is suppose to be worn with 'Aqua Fix' a special base-coat for this polish but I didn't want to buy the base-coat until I knew, for sure, if I needed it. I have experimented with this swatch with different base coats. From my ring finger to my thumb we have: Sally Hansen's base coat, no base-coat, essence's peel off base-coat and on my thumb, a white polish called 'Tokyo Pearl' by Sinful Colors.  It goes on a little patchy and wears off within 24 hours BUT that was without the special base-coat and no top-coat so I am hopeful that I can get this polish to last longer. So far I would say the white SC polish and Sally Hansen's base-coat is working the best.

Prince Charming + Tokyo Pearl

Prince Charming.....don't we all want to find our guy? Well while I am still waiting I will review the 'Prince Charming' special effect topper from the Snow White Collection by Essence. In a clear base we have small silver holographic glitters and larger hexagon-shaped blue glitters.

I have been waiting and waiting for these special effect toppers and when I finally found the Snow White Collection they had all gone but luckily I kept persevering and found the display to be re-stocked. Yay!!!! 

Also, Sinful Colors have just arrived at my local Target (I'll tell you the story later but lets just say I was SUPER EXCITED)......and when I saw 'Tokyo Pearl' I instantly knew I had to do this manicure :) So I present to you Two coats of Tokyo Pearl by Sinful Colors and a coat of Prince Charming by Essence.

You don't get heaps of the larger blue glitters on your nail if you apply Prince Charming normally but I actually don't really care. How I applied this polish was to swipe my nail first which got all the awesome smaller holo glitters in place and then by wiping my brush on the edge of bottle I could locate the larger glitters and place them where I wanted them. This might sound tedious but it isn't!!! And trust me....I'm no glitter over-my-head lover. 

I wanted this manicure to look like it was "snowing" the larger blue glitters and overall I must say I am rather pleased with myself *big grin*. Please feel free to let me know what you think by commenting below and/or voting in the poll. Cheers and take care.

Aussie Christmas Nail Challenge - Christmas Tree

The theme for today's challenge is 'Christmas Tree' and I decided to do a manicure inspired by my own Christmas tree. Every year we decorate our tree with silver tinsel (correction, LOTS of tinsel) and silver and blue baubles. Therefore this manicure is silver based.

If only polishes looked as good on nails as they did in bottles!

This is the first time I have worn or swatches this polish and whilst I'm not thrilled with the density of the glitter in the clear base I think I am always going to be one of those glitter-haters. If anybody knows of any good glitters that are DENSE please let me know :) Cheers. 

Anyway 'Party Popper' is by Models Prefer and contains silver/holo??? bar glitters and small glitter particles in a clear base. I layered it over Sally Hansen's 'Pedal to the Metal' and I think the result is quite nice - it's a delicate manicure that it isn't too showy but you still get a nice surprise when you step into the sunshine. Next time I will probably use more coats of 'Pedal to the Metal' though.

My first holographic polish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, okay yeah I am a tad over-excited but OMG OMG OMG OMG I finally have a holographic polish in my collection AND to make today even more awesome I'm going to a concert tomorrow :) Yay!!!!!!

Anyway I guess I should apologize for the excessive use of exclamation marks in this post, in advance, and stop rambling. Today I brought Butter London's Fishwife which has been described by others as a teal linear holographic polish. I'm not going to mess with that because it's pretty much spot-on. However, I would add that it's a pretty subtle teal, especially when you are inside and there is no sunlight.

As soon as I got home I painted one of my fingers and was a little disappointed but then once I actually sat down properly and painted all of my colours, experimenting with layering it over another polish too, I was much more happy. And THEN the sun came out and I was one super-excited / happy polish addict. In the sunlight this polish is AMAZING!!!!!!

On my middle finger I layered two coats of Fishwife over Essence's ' In Style' which is a dark teal polish and on my thumb I used one layer of Sportgirl's 'Love Potion' and two or three layers of Fishwife. My other fingers are purely only Fishwife. Three coats seems to eliminate any visible nail line but because this is the most expensive polish I have ever brought ($19.95) I will definitely be layering this over another polish....haven't found the perfect polish to layer it over yet but considering I only got it today I think that's totally fine!

I really love this polish, the colour is fantastic and the formula is really easy to work with. The formula is pretty thin but drying time is super-quick so it definitely is not an issue :) It is also 3-free which I consider to be very important and the linear holographic effect I would consider to be of moderate strength  however I have no prior experience with holographic polishes apart from admiring pictures on other people's blogs.

I took 150 or so photos of this polish and annoyingly a ton of them came out blurry but I did get some good photos!!! Okay so I don't feel like this post does justice to this polish at all. It is just random ramblings!!! But overall, long story cut short: Great holographic polish, formula is easy to work with and it dries quick.

Holographic love - BYS Diamond Glitter Crystal

Ever since seeing swatches of holographic polish online I have had a massive massive MASSIVE lemming for holographic polish.....but the only holographic polish I have been able to find in Australia cost $20 but then today I found a much cheaper alternative :) yay!!!!!!! So what is this amazing polish? It is called 'Diamond Glitter: Crystral" by BYS and costs only $4. You can buy BYS from places such as K-Mart, Gloss Costmetics and Ice Accessories.

'Crystal' is a glitter polish in a clear base. It contains silver holographic glitters and (I think) some multi-coloured glitters, all of the same size. This is quite a dense glitter which is impressive (don't need to layer it over anything) and it dries quickly. Formula is satisfactory, a little thick but this means you can get it opaque within 4 coats so I'm happy :)

I also brought an awesome metallic silver polish from BYS which I layered underneath 'crystal' on my right hand. But on my right hand I just used four thick coats of 'crystal' and this is actually the better option out of the two because the polish dries very quickly and it looks better...
